Properly support pinion shaft
during removal. Failure to
comply may result in damage to
pinion shaft.

With the aid of an assistant and using a soft
faced hammer, remove pinion shaft (4) from
differential housing (16).

Remove adjusting shim (28) from pinion
shaft (4).

Measure and record thickness of adjusting
shim (28) Discard adjusting shim.

Remove taper bearing (29) from bearing
race (30).
NOTE
Bearing may have to be heated
with a propane torch to be
removed.

Position pinion shaft (4) in press.

Using arbor press, remove taper bearing (31)
from pinion shaft (4).

Remove pinion shaft (4) from press.

Remove bearing races (32) and (30) from
differential housing (16).

Remove adjusting shim (33) from
differential housing (16).

Measure and record thickness of adjusting
shim (33). Discard adjusting shim.
