(1) Set multimeter select switch to
volts dc.
(2) Connect positive (+) multimeter lead to
the field coil positive (+) terminal of the
alternator.
(3) Connect negative (–) multimeter lead
to known good ground.
(4) Start engine and turn on headlights
and heater (TM 9-2320-364-10).
(a) If at least 5 vdc are not present,
turn off heater, headlights and
engine. Go to Step 7 of this Fault.
(b) If at least 5 vdc are present, turn
off heater, headlights and engine.
Go to Step 6 of this Fault.
VOLTAGE TEST
Remove all jewelry such as rings, dog tags, bracelets, etc. If jewelry or tools contact positive electrical
circuits, a direct short may result. Damage to equipment, injury or death to personnel may occur.
