Front planetary carrier assembly inspection.
(a)
Position front planetary carrier
assembly (1) on level work surface, hub
facing down.
(b)
Visually inspect front carrier
assembly (1) for evidence of chipped
gear teeth, overheat indication or metal
contamination.
NOTE
If front carrier assembly does
not meet specifications,
replace front carrier assembly.
(c)
Check end play of pinions (2). With
thrust washer (3) held flat, insert feeler
gage between front carrier assembly
and thrust washer. End play must be
within 0.008 to 0.031 in. (0.203 to
0.787 mm).
(d)
Replace damaged parts.

Center planetary carrier assembly inspection.
(a)
Position center planetary carrier
assembly (4) on level work surface.
(b)
Visually inspect center planetary
carrier assembly (4) for evidence of
chipped gear teeth, overheat indication
or metal contamination.
NOTE
If center planetary carrier
assembly does not meet
specifications, replace center
planetary carrier assembly.
(c)
Check end play of pinions (5). With
thrust washer (6) held flat, insert feeler
gage between center carrier assembly
and thrust washer. End play must be
within 0.008 to 0.031 in. (0.203 to
0.787 mm).
(d)
Replace damaged parts.
