Disassembly. NOTE Front and rear steering gear are repaired the same way. (1) Position steering gear housing (1) in chain vise. (2) Matchmark gear housing (1), cover (2), bearing cap (3) and cylinder head (4). (3) Remove eight screws (5) and lockwashers (6) from cover (2).  Discard lockwashers. (4) Using a soft faced hammer, tap back end of shaft (7) to remove cover (2) and shaft (7) from gear housing (1).
