6-4. STARTER REPAIR (CONT).
Hold bottom nut while
removing top nut. Failure to
comply may damage equipment.

Remove nut (8) from field coil stud (9).

Remove nut (10) and jumper strap (11) from
terminal No. 3 (12).
(5)
Remove two screws (13) and solenoid (14)
from field ring (15).
(6)
Remove two nuts (16), screws (17) and
brush opening band (18) from field ring (15).
(7)
Using a wire hook, pull eight springs (19)
upward and remove eight brushes (20) from
four brush holders (21).
(8)
Remove eight screws (22), four
lockplates (23) and eight brush wires (24)
from four brush holders (21). Discard
lockplates.
(9)
Matchmark commutator end housing (25)
and field ring (15).
(10)
Remove four screws (26), lockwashers (27),
commutator end housing (25) and
preformed packing (28) from field ring (15).
Discard lockwashers and preformed packing.
(11)
Remove washer (29) and washer (30) from
armature shaft (31).
